He will join us with a presentation on psychedelic research followed by a 15min Q&amp;A session. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Ben has specialist training as a child and adolescent psychiatrist and&nbsp; is interested in the developmental trajectory from child maltreatment to adult mental health disorders, including adult addictions. Dr Sessa\u2019s&nbsp; joint interests in psychotherapy, pharmacology and trauma have led&nbsp; him towards researching the subject of drug-assisted psychotherapy&nbsp; using psychedelic adjuncts. In the last 15 years he has been part of&nbsp; scientific and clinical studies administering LSD, psilocybin, ketamine,&nbsp; MDMA and DMT to patients and volunteers.<br><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-rounded\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/sprg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/bensessa.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sprg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/bensessa.jpg 700w, https:\/\/sprg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/bensessa-300x257.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sprg.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/bensessa-70x60.jpg 70w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He is the author of psychedelic medical exploration books; The&nbsp; Psychedelic Renaissance (2012 and 2017) and To Fathom Hell or Soar&nbsp; Angelic (2015). He has recently completed research with Imperial&nbsp; College London exploring the world\u2019s first MDMA-assisted therapy&nbsp; trial for the treatment of Alcohol Dependence Syndrome.<br><br>Alongside Prof. David Nutt, Ben has also been a long term advocate of drug policy reform in the UK; believing that current laws&nbsp; hamper research and increase, rather than reduce, the burden of&nbsp; problematic drug use on individuals and society.
